Lust is an enemy from Space Invaders Infinity Gene first appearing in Stage 4-6, Autolysis.

Appearance[]

Lust appears as an Element-like hexagon with six tentacles hooked with grapples, somewhat resembling an abstract depiction of a nerve cell.

Behavior[]

The enemy disguises itself as an Element and is revealed when attacked or provoked. It will then seek out and grab Neurons or the player. When a Neuron is grabbed, it can then fire bullets. If it grabs the player, it will slow them down. Lust is especially great when it comes to camouflage as seen in Stage 5-2 "Codon" where Lust will hide behind hexagon elements while remaining stationary until it is provoked.

Name[]

Like many other enemies, it is named after one of the seven deadly sins. It matches this by actively seeking out Neurons or the player, which could be viewed as a parallel to lust.

Biological Connections[]

Unlike most enemies from Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Lust does not appear to be a spaceship or at least some kind of mechanical entity, and may, in fact, be a living organism like the classic invaders or possibly Nameless. It highly resembles a real-world neuron and is further connected to nerve cells through the enemy Axon, the boss of its introductory stage, named after a structure in nerve cells. The stage name Autolysis comes from the term for the destruction of cells and tissues from their own enzymes, and Element-like hexagons possibly representing dead cells drift through the background, again suggesting biological origin. It's behavior may parallel nerve cell accepting hormones.
