Space Invaders Wiki

Level 6 is the first and final level block exclusive to Space Invaders Infinity Gene Evolve. It features a new graphical style where enemies are shaded and give off a slight glow, both corresponding to the level's bullet hell coloration. Stages in this level, particularly bosses, incorporate the Z-axis more. Some levels begin with cutscenes, and each boss has a unique Burst Finish cutscene.

6-1 Interspecific Competition[]

Interspecific Competition is the first stage of level 6. Like it's ancestor, 5-1 Organizer, it acts as a showcase of the newest version's improvements and attributes with varied level geometry and spectacle.

It begins with a cutscene of the player's ship flying through a series of Gigantic UFOs. A quote from Charles Darwin is shown as a closeup of the player is given: "Natural selection almost inevitably causes much extinction of the less improved forms of life and induces what I have called divergence of character." The player ship then rockets away into the level.

Much of 6-1 takes place over a wireframe city where numerous Crabs can be seen wandering about and Gigantic UFOs flying in the background. Here, a new enemy, Balsam, and a large variant of Scratchers are encountered. A new unexpected enemy, Ring, is found. Flying alongside Gigantic UFOs, the player will see Crow flying by them in the background, followed by its flock of Birds. The player also gets to duel with a Crab located in an opening of the city. As it uses circling laser attacks, it cuts open and knocks buildings down.

The finale of the battle with the Crab demolishes a building, revealing a hatch in the ground. The hatch opens and the player flies in. Beneath the city, the background turns black as a Wrath emerges. Then, the player enters a series of squared subterranean tunnels where Water Strider is fought again. The player flies from their battle with the formerly-formidable enemy through a series of opening hatches and rockets out into the void.

A warning message is shown as the fight with Crow ensues. The player is over a cityscape once again, but a flash in the distance heralds Crow's arrival. The two engage in a dogfight over the passing cityscape.

Evolution[]

6-1 is the first main stage to use shaders overlaid a gradient background, when previously shaders would be used on a black background.

Like the other stages introduced in Evolve, 6-1 forgoes many of the motifs that tied previous Selection stages together. Notably, The Moon and Centipede don't appear. The only returning Selection bosses are Water Strider and a group of Diffusers. Strangely, Crab is included here instead of in 6-2.

The name "Interspecific Competition" refers to competition between different species for resources. This is opposed to intraspecific competition, where members of the same species compete. This is likely in reference to the opening quote as this form of competition is likely to stabilize with one species going extinct.

6-2 Cell Expansion[]

6-3 Secondary Endosymbiosis[]

6-4 Orthologous Gene[]
