Axon is a boss that appears in Space Invaders Infinity Gene, making its debut in stage 4-6, Autolysis, where it's accompanied by the track Devil.
Appearance[]
Axon takes the form of a core with 16, petal-like protrusions. It resembles a nerve cell and by association Lust, which it is likely related to in some way.
Behavior and Attacks[]
Axon extends its protrusions in various patterns, revealing its core. Said protrusions' positioning can rotate while extended, or simply stay in place and move outwards. Protrusions will eventually be regenerated if destroyed, and the only way to kill the Axon is by destroying the core.
The Protrusions upon regeneration or regardless when Axon brings back all its pedals and fires them faster, it will send a barrage of rotating bullets, encircling the entire field. If many protrusions exist on Axon, the more difficult it will be for the player to avoid getting hit. In terms of difficulty, beyond normal mode, Axon will fire more bullets in a faster and more relentless pace.
Name[]
The Axon earns its name from the real-world cell structures, which conduct electrical pulses from nerve-to-nerve. The protrusions resemble dendrites, and the core itself resembles the perikaryon of the cell (which is notably the name of another stage where it appears.)
